As a diligent student, I used to get good marks, by any assessment standard. The school headmaster, who was also my chemistry teacher, always wrote in my end-term report card “There is room for improvement”, which troubled me somehow. My worry was how to respond to the unfailing reaction from home that, “You see, even your headmaster believes you can do better.”
You may have experienced something similar. You kept on working hard, attained MSc in OSH/others, NEBOSH iDip, this or that certification, secured a top notch, progressive position, in a multinational company, working with safety programs. Undoubtedly, impressive CV (report card)! From my experience, I can still see my headmaster, may he rest in peace, scribbling his name in your report card, under the comment There is room for improvement.
Indeed, there is room for improvement. But, first, think Occupational Health Burden – a worker with work-related Silicosis is treated for TB, or lead-poisoned, treated for Malaria. Don’t be surprised. Occupational diseases can be obscure, and as a result, many workers follow similar path. Ever given a thought how much of a workforce problem this is, and to the workers’ families, the society, the nation? Is prevention of this burden at all realisable? And at what cost? Can you, in your position, contribute to this realisation? Do you want to make that contribution? Or, with your MSc/NEBOSH, whatever, are contented, and just happy with your company’s zero injuries annual report?
Now, having caught your attention, OSH Pro Services opens for you a “new room for improvement” by proudly presenting this 2-days OSH Conference 2018, titled Prevention of occupational health burden – is it realisable? The Conference, will provide you with an opportunity to improve; improve your comprehension and competence, through sharing of experiences with others, learning about strategies and from each others perspectives, international level topical discourse with high repute experts, motivation to test book-examples in light of functional skills others have developed.
